The Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President for Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education (OSSAP-TVEE) is working diligently to kick off a countrywide skill improvement initiative as part of the National Poverty Reduction with Growth Strategy (NPRGS).
This initiative is among multiple plans devised by the Federal Government with the objective of boosting Nigeria’s skilled labor force to reach at least 50 percent over the coming two years.
During a planning committee meeting held in Abuja, Dr. Abiola Arogundade, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Technical, Vocational, and Entrepreneurship Education, disclosed that six states have been chosen to act as training centers representing each of Nigeria’s geo-political regions.
As she stated, “The specified states encompass Adamawa (Northeast), Ondo (Southwest), Abuja (North Central), Kebbi (Northwest), Delta (Southeast), and Enugu (South-South).”
Dr. Arogundade stated that every region would educate 300 individuals across three distinct skill categories. These fields were chosen according to their demand in the job market, importance, and the interests of those who intend to participate in the training programs.
In the North-Central region, overseen directly by OSSAP-TVEE, the training program will include Cybersecurity, Solar Installation, and Graphic Design.
She added that the recipients will come from the six states within the region—namely Benue, Kogi, Kwara, Nasarawa, Niger, and Plateau—and also include the Federal Capital Territory.
She mentioned that every training session will last for 10 days, providing practical, high-demand skills to 300 meticulously chosen participants to enhance both their job prospects and entrepreneurial capabilities.
