The Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, has launched the Stallion Vehicle Assembly Plant and Automotive Infrastructure project, crediting this initiative as one of his administration’s efforts to shift the state from a consumption-oriented economy to a production-focused one.
The governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, mentioned that the facility will start by assembling and delivering 2,000 hybrid sedans, with intentions to commence bus production shortly.
Today’s event signals the start of a new industrial age. By collaborating with Stallion MG Automobiles Ltd—a renowned global brand with extensive automotive expertise—we are initiating a government-backed initiative to manufacture and distribute 2,000 hybrid sedans, with intentions to extend our reach into bus production,” he stated.
He mentioned that the vehicles would promote clean energy projects and function as a component of the youth empowerment taxi program aimed at providing decent jobs.
‘This platform will similarly function as an educational arena for the upcoming cohort of automotive engineers, offering well-defined structures for technological knowledge sharing and skill enhancement.’
‘Aside from generating jobs, we view this facility as a driving force for greater ambitions; establishing Enugu as the central automotive hub for the Southeastern part of Nigeria and extending to the broader West African market,’ he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the Stallion Group for their collaboration and confidence in the state, underscoring his government’s aim to enhance citizen empowerment and transformation by bolstering the economy and elevating local production to have international significance.
He similarly motivated the youth within the state to take advantage of the chance to gain expertise in the automotive sector and emerge as key figures internationally. At the same time, he conveyed his gratitude to the local community and all parties involved for their backing and cooperative efforts.
The Group Managing Director of Stallion Group referred to the assembly plant as much more than just an inauguration. He stated that this initiative embodies a collective aspiration towards innovation, partnership, and nationwide economic advancement for both the local region and the nation as a whole.
‘We thank His Excellency for partnering with us to advance the automotive development plant and for his vision of a clean, efficient transport system. This collaboration will enhance transport infrastructure, create jobs, and place Enugu on the map in Africa’s auto industry,’ he stated.
