Italian Designer Maria Grazia Chiuri Steps Down From Dior

On Thursday, Dior revealed that Maria Grazia Chiuri, an Italian designer, would be leaving her role as the creative head for the brand’s female line after nearly ten years with the company.

Since Chiuri assumed control in 2016, Dior has experienced significant growth, positioning itself as the second-largest brand within the portfolio of high-end labels under the French giant LVMH.

Her modernization efforts and feminist advocacy drew in new clientele.

Chiuri, who became the first female creative director at Dior following a tenure at Italian fashion houses Valentino and Fendi, had frequently been speculated about potentially leaving her position.

“Dior would like to extend its profound appreciation to Maria Grazia Chiuri for her remarkable tenure as the Artistic Director of the Women’s collections since 2016, following an incredible partnership,” stated Dior in an official release.

“Following nine years here, I’m departing from the House of Dior with great joy for the exceptional chance I’ve had,” Chiuri stated in the release.

Last month, Northern Irish designer Jonathan Anderson was appointed as the creative director for Dior Men and is now being considered as a potential heir apparent. If he takes up this role, he will be the first individual to lead both the menswear and womenswear lines at the brand.
