Health Ministry’s Visit to Kabale Hospital Sparks Government Project Review

Currently, the Ministry of Health’s Communication Office team is conducting a fact-finding visit in Kabale to evaluate various governmental initiatives at the Kabale Regional Referral Hospital. This facility acts as a key referral center for multiple areas including Kabale, Kanungu, Kisoro, Rukiga, Rubanda, and Rukungiri—all part of the Kigezi region.

The Health Communications Department, led by the Public Relations Officer from the Ministry of Health, Emmanuel Ainebyoona, has traveled to Kabale to assess various governmental initiatives including the status of the hospital lab facilities, the functioning of the ICT scanning equipment, and the progress on building the intensive care unit.

Emmanuel Ainebyoona, who serves as the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Health, mentions that his ministry is currently working on cataloging important governmental expenditures. He also highlights their substantial investment in healthcare facilities aimed at ensuring well-equipped hospitals. During inspections, he states that critical problems such as power supply and connectivity will be identified and then communicated to the relevant sections within the Ministry for further action.

Ainebyoona further notes that touring various referral hospitals has been an ongoing process, emphasizing their intention to extend these visits to additional districts.

Ainebyoona emphasized that we are recording the advancement of various governmental healthcare initiatives while also informing Ugandans about what the administration has accomplished in enhancing health facilities, as people would remain unaware otherwise.

During their visit to the unfinished Intensive Care Unit, officials observed that the project has surpassed its intended handover date in September 2023. Eng. David Busige, Project Manager for HASO Engineers, mentioned they have reached 75% completion and aim to conclude work by May 31st. In addition, he asked for an extra month due to delays caused by incorporating new design elements.

“We humbly ask for additional time to be granted to us so that we can adequately complete and deliver quality work,” Busige pleaded.

Dr. Moses Chelegoi, who leads as the principal radiographer at Kabale Regional Referral Hospital, pointed out that their primary obstacle is submitting reports to the facility in Mulago, blaming this issue on unreliable internet connectivity.

The discovery from this mission is expected to tackle the issues that for many years have impeded progress within Uganda’s healthcare industry.
