Gov. Evers Unveils Million Investment Plan for Wisconsin’s Workforce

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Governor Tony Evers, along with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development, announced on Monday that ten regional workforce development organizations will receive over $10 million in grants through the Worker Advancement Initiative.

This is the second round of funding through the Worker Advancement Initiative. The funding is expected to help more than 1,400 Wisconsinites find or improve their employment through work-based learning and classroom training.

The Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin is one of 10 organizations that will receive the funding.

The organization is expected to receive more than $1 million, which will support 225 participants by advancing current work-based learning strategies. This includes bringing young adults to careers using subsidized employment.

“Over the past several years, including in 2024 the Year of the Worker, we’ve been hard at work to reduce barriers to work, address our state’s generational workforce shortages and build the 21st-century workforce needed to support a 21st-century economy,” said Gov. Evers. “We’re continuing to build upon these tremendously successful efforts, and we’re proud to have helped tens of thousands of our friends and neighbors successfully enter or move up in the workforce, and these investments will continue that good work in communities across our state.”

Gov. Evers dubbed 2024 the
Year of the Worker
in his State of the State address, which highlights the state’s generational workforce challenges and prepares the workforce for the needs of a 21st-century economy.
