Youth Triathlon Attracts 350 Young Athletes

A Thriving Tradition: The 17th Annual Tri-Kids-Try Youth Triathlon

The 17th annual Tri-Kids-Try Youth Triathlon recently brought together over 350 young athletes from the Midland area and across the state. The event, held at Plymouth Park over two days, offered participants a chance to swim, bike, and run while promoting health, self-esteem, and confidence.

On Friday evening, approximately 95 children aged 3 to 5 participated in the mini-triathlon, which was designed to be an accessible and fun introduction to multisport activities. The following day, around 255 kids aged 6 to 15 took on longer distances, showcasing their growing skills and determination.

The triathlon course is carefully structured to ensure a safe and engaging experience for all participants. It begins with a swim at Plymouth Pool, followed by a bike ride through the adjacent neighborhood, and concludes with a run through Plymouth Park. This layout allows for a seamless transition between each leg of the race, creating a well-rounded challenge for young athletes.

Jennifer Adamcik, the Greater Midland Race Manager, expressed her appreciation for the enthusiasm displayed by the participants. “Just the energy as they come to the start line and as they cross the finish line after they run, it’s very infectious,” she said. Adamcik noted that the event is not only rewarding for the organizers but also for the volunteers who support the race.

Volunteers play a crucial role in making the event successful. They cheer on the participants throughout the course, helping to create an atmosphere of encouragement and excitement. Their efforts are essential in ensuring that every child feels supported and motivated.
