World Sports Journalists Day was celebrated across Pakistan on Tuesday, as media professionals in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore came together to honor the vital role of sports journalism in promoting integrity, athletic excellence, and national pride.

In Islamabad, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) hosted a commemorative event at a local hotel, attended by senior journalists, athletes, and officials from the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Islamabad Olympic Association (IOA), and various national sports federations.

The ceremony featured tributes to veteran sports journalists for their lifelong contributions, while younger professionals were encouraged to uphold ethical standards and continue serving as guardians of fair play and the Olympic spirit. RISJA Patron Abdul Mohi Shah, Chairman Shakeel Awan, and President Abubakar Bin Tallat emphasized the media’s powerful influence in shaping sporting narratives and inspiring future generations.A cake-cutting ceremony and a panel discussion on the evolution of sports journalism in the digital era added depth to the proceedings.

Meanwhile in Lahore, the Sports Journalists Association of Lahore (SJAL) organised a vibrant gathering at their SJAL Office within the National Hockey Stadium, uniting working journalists, senior correspondents, and media veterans in celebration.

SJAL Chairman Muhammad Yaqoob, President Aqeel Ahmed, and Secretary Yousaf Anjum led the proceedings, praising the dedication and resilience of sports reporters who often work under intense pressure and limited resources.
