Affordable Housing Development Begins in Perranwell Station
A significant housing project is currently underway in the Cornish village of Perranwell Station, located between Truro and Falmouth. This initiative aims to deliver nine new affordable homes, with completion expected by next spring. The development is being spearheaded by Coastline Housing, a social landlord committed to providing quality housing for local residents.
The funding for this project has come from two key sources: Homes England and Cornwall Council. This financial support has been crucial in making the scheme possible, ensuring that the homes will be accessible to those who need them most.
Of the nine properties being built, five will be available for social rent, offering long-term, secure housing for individuals and families in need. The remaining four homes will be offered through shared ownership, allowing residents to purchase a portion of the property while paying a reduced rent on the remaining share. This approach provides flexibility for those looking to build equity while still benefiting from affordable living costs.
To mark the official start of construction, outgoing local councillor Peter Williams and his newly elected successor for the ward, Ruth Gripper, joined representatives from Coastline Housing on-site for a celebratory event. This moment highlighted the community’s excitement about the project and its potential to transform the local area.
Mr Williams, who has been actively involved in supporting the development during his time in office, worked closely with Coastline Housing to navigate the planning process and secure approval for the scheme. He emphasized the importance of the project in addressing the housing needs of the local population.
Cllr Gripper expressed her enthusiasm for the development, stating that it would provide much-needed options for residents looking to downsize or take their first step onto the property ladder. She noted that the bungalows would allow people to remain within their local community while enjoying the benefits of affordable housing.
“I’m really happy to see work beginning on this development of bungalows for Perranwell Station,” she said. “It’s exactly the sort of thing that local people need – whether they are thinking about downsizing or about getting their first home, but still staying within the local area. It will be really exciting to see it all coming to life over the coming weeks and months.”
Mr Williams added that he had been working on the project for several years before passing the responsibility to Cllr Gripper. He expressed hope that the homes would provide long-term comfort and satisfaction for future residents.
The bungalows, being constructed by local contractor EBC Partnerships, are set to be completed around Spring next year. Once ready, they will offer a range of housing options for those seeking affordable, high-quality homes in the area.
This development represents a positive step forward for Perranwell Station, reflecting a commitment to meeting the needs of local residents and supporting sustainable growth in the region.
