Why Isn’t Fox News Reporting on the Trump-Epstein Letter Leak?

The Political Media Landscape in Turmoil

The political media world was thrown into chaos when a major story broke, revealing a supposed birthday letter from Donald Trump to Jeffrey Epstein, a late sex offender. This revelation led the president to take legal action against the publication and its owner, sparking a significant backlash.

Following the publication of the alleged letter, the president filed a libel lawsuit against the right-wing media mogul and the parent companies of The Wall Street Journal, News Corp and Dow Jones. Despite this, many regular viewers of Fox News may not be aware of the blockbuster report that has stirred up strong reactions from supporters of the president and prompted him to request the release of “pertinent” grand jury testimony related to the Epstein case.

Fox News, known for its conservative stance, has largely avoided discussing the report. A review of their on-air coverage since the story was published shows that the network only briefly mentioned the report once, with a host teasing a segment that never materialized. Laura Ingraham, during her program, hinted at the story but ultimately focused on other topics, leaving the audience without the promised details.

On the digital platform, the network has only published two Epstein-related stories, both of which focus on Trump’s directive to release parts of the grand jury transcripts. These articles avoid any mention of the eye-catching story from The Wall Street Journal.

In the past 24 hours, Fox News hosts have occasionally discussed the Epstein saga, but mainly to highlight Trump’s continued popularity among Republicans or to report on his promise to release “pertinent” grand jury testimony. Sean Hannity, a close ally of the president, emphasized Trump’s victory in swing states and the increase in his approval rating despite the ongoing discussions about the Epstein scandal.

White House correspondent Peter Doocy noted that Trump had publicly called for the release of the grand jury testimony, while Shannon Bream, the network’s chief legal correspondent, discussed the legal procedures involved in publishing such testimony.

The lack of coverage on a sister publication’s big scoop is not surprising given the symbiotic relationship between Fox News and Trump. The network’s programming has been tailored to avoid angering the president, especially after he declared war on the newspaper’s owner. Trump expressed his desire to have Rupert Murdoch testify in his lawsuit against the newspaper, indicating his strong stance on the issue.

Rather than risk further inflaming the president and his loyalists, Fox News appears to be taking a cautious approach by avoiding the topic for now. This strategy aligns with their previous actions since the Epstein controversy began, particularly after the president instructed his supporters to stop talking about the deceased sex offender.

The network’s avoidance of the Epstein saga has even drawn criticism from other right-wing outlets and personalities, who mock Fox News for being “terrified” of covering the story out of fear of pissing off Trump. However, some employees of Murdoch’s company are willing to discuss the story. Riley Gaines, a culture warrior and podcast host, supported Trump’s legal threats against the newspaper, urging others to “sue them into oblivion.”

The Independent, known for its independent stance, has always aimed to challenge and debate issues, launching in 1986 to create a new voice in the media landscape. It has run various campaigns on different issues, showcasing its commitment to free thought and discussion.
