West Virginia Woman Marks 105th Birthday

A Centenarian’s Celebration of Life and Joy

In the small town of South Charleston, West Virginia, a remarkable woman recently turned 105 years old, marking a milestone that very few people achieve. Ernestine Reynolds celebrated her special day surrounded by loved ones, enjoying a lunch at Eagle’s Nest, a local favorite spot.

Born in 1920 in Clendenin, Ernestine had a life filled with purpose and dedication. She attended Glenville State University, where she laid the foundation for her future. After completing her education, she spent several years teaching in schools across eastern Kanawha County. Her career was not just about imparting knowledge; it was about shaping young minds and helping them grow.

Once she retired from teaching, Ernestine chose to focus on raising her two sons, giving them the best possible start in life. Her commitment to her family was evident in every aspect of their upbringing. According to her younger son, Mike Reynolds, their mother prioritized their education and well-being above all else.

“Most of what she worked for, she spent on the boys, my brother and I, for going to school and things like that. It’s been a good life, for her and us,” Mike shared, reflecting on his mother’s sacrifices and love.

Despite her age, Ernestine is anything but slow. At her birthday party, she greeted everyone with open arms and a warm smile, radiating joy and energy. Her positive attitude and vibrant spirit are a testament to her character.

“I’m just really, really feeling great today. Being here right now is the best part, with all my friends,” she said, clearly delighted by the celebration.

Mike noted that making friends has always come easily to his mother. “She doesn’t have to do much of anything. They come to her and they want to do things for her all the time. I can only hope I have that kind of friends if I live anywhere near that long,” he added, highlighting the deep connections she has built over the years.

Ernestine’s secret to longevity might be simpler than one might expect. She credits regular exercise as a key factor in her long and healthy life. Swimming, in particular, has been a favorite activity for her. “Swimming is one of the best exercises you can get, I think. I love the water. When I was 99, I was still in the water. I quit because they let the water get cold, and I got the chills. But I did go in when I was 99,” she explained.

Her passion for swimming and physical activity has clearly contributed to her overall well-being. Even at 105, she continues to embrace an active lifestyle, proving that age is just a number.

As the community gathered to celebrate her birthday, it was clear that Ernestine’s presence brings joy and inspiration to those around her. Her story is a reminder of the importance of family, friendship, and staying active throughout life.

Happy Birthday, Ernestine! Here’s to many more years of happiness, health, and adventure.
