Altman started Greenmore fifteen years ago after purchasing farmland in West Grove. At the time, she was balancing her nursing career with this new passion project. However, five years ago, she made the decision to commit to the rescue full-time. “It wasn’t fun,” she admits. “I just want to rescue now.” Her dedication has led to the rescue of countless animals over the years.
Since 2010, Greenmore has saved not only dogs but also a wide variety of other animals, including peacocks, emus, goats, lambs, horses, and pigs. Altman’s background in nursing has played a significant role in the success of these efforts. Her team performs most veterinary services on-site, with the exception of surgeries and scans, which are handled by external professionals.
“We do a good bit more than a lot of rescues,” says Altman. “We try to do as much ourselves, so we don’t have to pay for it, because it’s really expensive.” This commitment to self-sufficiency helps reduce costs and ensures that more resources can be directed toward the animals in need.
