A Day of Joy and Connection for Foster and Adoptive Families
Families with foster and adopted children had the opportunity to create lasting memories during Wednesday’s Child’s annual Family Fun Day at Kentucky Kingdom. The event provided a space where kids could simply be kids, enjoying rides, games, and time with their loved ones.
One of the highlights of the day was the chance to ride roller coasters and splash in the water park. For many families, these experiences are not just about fun—they’re about building connections and creating moments that will last a lifetime.
Amarion and Kamiyah Brett, two siblings who attend the event every summer, shared their excitement. “We go here pretty much every summer and make a lot of great memories,” they said. “I’m excited to do roller coasters and rides.”
For large families, the cost of amusement park tickets can often be a barrier. That’s where Wednesday’s Child steps in, offering support and opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
Paul Maynard, another parent who attended the event, emphasized the importance of days like this for his children. “They don’t realize there’s a lot of other kids with similar situations,” he explained. “You kind of get to get out there and see, ‘Hey, I’m not alone.’ There’s a lot of kids that are in the same situation at home.”
Wednesday’s Child is an organization dedicated to helping children in Kentucky find forever homes. Beyond adoption, the group also focuses on supporting families after the placement process. Board Chairwoman Kelly Pullen highlighted the importance of these efforts.
“We also provide supportive services to foster and adoptive families and children,” she said. “That includes providing events.” These events are not just about entertainment—they’re about creating a sense of community and belonging.
The success of events like Family Fun Day depends heavily on the support of the local community. Wednesday’s Child relies on private donations and sponsorships to make such activities possible. Pullen urged residents to continue stepping up and contributing.
“In order for us to put this on year after year, we’re really counting on the community to step up and support us,” she said.
For kids like Amarion, this support means more opportunities to enjoy time with family and friends. “I love it,” he said. “I like being around my family. We have a pretty big family. So, it’s hard not to be around each other, but I really enjoy spending time with my siblings and my parents.”
Wednesday’s Child continues to play a vital role in the lives of foster and adopted children across Kentucky. Through events like Family Fun Day, the organization helps ensure that every child has the chance to experience joy, connection, and the simple pleasure of being part of a family.
The impact of these efforts extends beyond the amusement park. It’s about giving children a sense of security, belonging, and hope for the future. For many, it’s a reminder that they are not alone in their journey.
As the sun set on another memorable day at Kentucky Kingdom, families left with new stories, laughter, and a deeper appreciation for the support that makes these moments possible.
