Victory Blvd. Lane Closures Coming in York County

Victory Blvd. Lane Closures Coming in York County

Construction on Victory Boulevard to Impact Traffic for Several Weeks

Starting Monday, several lanes on Victory Boulevard in York County, Virginia, will be closed as part of an ongoing widening project. The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that these closures will continue through late summer, with the goal of improving traffic flow and reducing congestion along the route.

The construction involves work on the median of Victory Boulevard, which is part of a larger initiative to expand the road. This project is expected to take several weeks, though it remains subject to weather conditions and scheduling changes.

Lane Closures and Detour Information

As part of the construction, specific lane closures will be implemented. The westbound left lane on Victory Boulevard/Route 171 between Bowman Terrace and just past Hampton Highway/Route 134 will be closed during the work. Additionally, the eastbound left-turn lane from Victory Boulevard to Hampton Highway will also be affected.

A signed detour will be in place to guide drivers around the affected areas. Motorists traveling westbound on Victory Boulevard should be aware that the inside left-turn lane from Victory Boulevard to George Washington Memorial Highway/Route 17 will be closed. However, the outside left-turn lane will remain open to traffic.

Another section of the road that will see changes is the westbound right-turn lane at Kiln Creek Parkway. This lane is being extended to connect with the existing acceleration lane at the entrance to the Walmart Supercenter. This improvement will create a fourth full-length westbound travel lane on Victory Boulevard.

Project Details and Benefits

The $4.6 million Victory Boulevard widening project began in March and is designed to accommodate more vehicles while improving traffic flow. The expansion will increase the number of lanes on Victory Boulevard between George Washington Memorial Highway and Hampton Highway from five to six.

Additionally, a third eastbound lane will be added between George Washington Memorial Highway and Hampton Highway. These changes are intended to reduce congestion and improve safety for drivers in the area.

The project also includes improvements to turn lanes, which will help manage traffic more efficiently, especially during peak hours. By adding more lanes and optimizing turn lanes, VDOT aims to make the road safer and more efficient for all users.

Ongoing Updates and Travel Tips

Drivers should stay informed about the construction schedule and any potential changes. VDOT typically provides updates through its official channels, including social media and local news outlets.

Motorists planning to travel through the area during the construction period are encouraged to use alternative routes where possible and to follow the posted detour signs. Patience and awareness are key during this time, as the work is essential for long-term improvements to the transportation infrastructure in York County.

With the completion of this project, Victory Boulevard will see significant upgrades that will benefit both residents and visitors. The increased capacity and improved traffic flow are expected to have a positive impact on the community for years to come.
