Veterans Discover Job Opportunities at Missouri’s Hire a Veteran Day

Hundreds of state agencies met on the third floor of the Missouri State Capitol on Friday to honor “National Hire a Veteran Day.”

The gathering on Friday included more than 25 tables from different state organizations. Organizers believed approximately 100 veterans participated in the career fair.

Tyriq Holt, a service member who was present at the gathering, mentioned that he left the U.S. Air Force this spring. The process of returning home had its challenges.

I’m becoming accustomed to having to create my own structure,” he said. “I’m trying to reassess some aspects and readjust to life as a civilian, which is really why I’m here.

Service members had the chance to discuss possible employment options and professional trajectories with state government representatives.

“I’ve definitely managed to ignite my curiosity, including topics I hadn’t considered before, by talking to various individuals,” Holt stated.

The yearly gathering showcases the skills that numerous veterans contribute to the workplace and seeks to assist them in securing employment following their service.

“Veterans bring with them many skills that are highly valuable in the job market, and we understand that finding employment can sometimes be difficult, especially these days. That’s why we’re organizing this event to give them a chance to explore and possibly experience what working in state government could be like,” said Shayne Martin, a public information officer with the Office of Administration.

Martin, as a veteran, stated that he is aware many people are looking to serve something greater than themselves.

“When you exit service, you sometimes lose or miss that feeling of camaraderie, and you also long for that sense of larger and more significant service,” he stated.

He mentioned that numerous state agencies might provide that feeling of direction.

Holt expressed his appreciation for individuals supporting veterans during a period of change.

It demonstrates backing from the community. It also highlights support from local businesses, particularly within the state of Missouri,” he stated. “They genuinely wish to see you succeed and thrive.
