A ’very apologetic’ couple were helped off the fells having called Keswick Mountain Rescue Team (KMRT).
Two walkers were enjoying the conditions above the inversion on Green Gable but took a wrong turn after deciding to descend due to fading daylight.
Rather than taking the easier path down to Gillercombe, they ended up on steep terrain on the nose of Base Brown, in darkness and without torches.
Concerned about ending up in a tricky situation if they continued, they sensibly made a call to KMRT for assistance.

A spokesperson for KMRT said: “A couple of walkers were enjoying the glorious sunshine above the inversion on Green Gable – perhaps longer than they should have.
“A small Keswick team attended and where necessary back roped the very apologetic couple to safer ground.”
