MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (WLUC) — This week saw several Michigan policymakers convene on Mackinac Island for the annual discussion taking place during the Mackinac Policy Conference. The focus was on shaping the state’s future concerning its residents, enterprises, and natural surroundings.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan delivered the main speech at the Mackinac Policy Conference on Thursday around 3:10 p.m.
She emphasized the challenging tasks Michigan has undertaken and outlined her goals for the coming year.
Whitmer states her aim is to boost child literacy rates.
We need to concentrate all our educational policies on achieving this ambitious objective until we reach it,” stated Whitmer. “Towards the end of last year, I endorsed sensible legislation aimed at implementing evidence-based reading methods grounded in scientific research.

The governor states her intention to create a cross-party plan for financing roads.
“We must provide a sustainable, long-term solution for our local and state roadways so people can commute to work, safely transport their children to school, and run errands without risking a flat tire or damaging an axle,” stated Whitmer.
She also mentions her desire to construct a semiconductor fabrication plant.
I have been actively promoting this cause with both the Trump administration and the newly formed U.S. agencies.
Investment Accelerator
,” stated Whitmer. “This is an intergenerational investment that transforms the whole area into an economic hub, encouraging families to relocate here and establish their homes.”
Whitmer stressed the importance of collaborating with both Democrats and Republicans to achieve these objectives.
“I am dedicated to you, as I have consistently been, to exert every effort possible to advance our state,” stated Whitmer. “I will collaborate with everyone to improve the lives of our families, businesses, and communities.”
Nonetheless, Whitmer states that the sole guarantee for the coming years is uncertainty.
We must recognize what falls under our influence and what doesn’t,” stated Whitmer. “I cannot dictate the outcomes of the global tariff dispute or how they affect our economy. However, whenever I have the chance to visit the Oval Office, I will present our arguments.
Currently, Republicans have control over most seats in the State House. In contrast, Democrats dominate with a majority in the Senate.
