Some of the world’s oldest dog breeds are some of the most interesting pups around and few have even heard of them or wouldn’t recognize them in a police doggy lineup! One little guy named Dante wants to change that. With his super-cool, sparse tuft of top hair, the smoothest skin you’ll ever see, and a 5,000-year-old legacy to maintain, this boy is doing the absolute most, and we’re here for it!

because Dante represents the
incredibly rare
Mexican Hairless
dogs everywhere, and he’s perfection. His white hair tufts could be the very same you’d see on someone’s rich, retired uncle sitting poolside while surfing for honeys.
Also known as a
Xoloitzcuintli
(pronounced “show-low-eats-QUEENT-lee”), the breed originated in ancient Aztec times more than 5,000 years ago. The dog of the gods has a unique look, as you can see in Dante, and is a relative of their smaller cousins,
Chihuahuas
.
The
Xoloitzcuintli Club of America
noted the breed’s “healing properties,” while the Latin American indigenous group, The Nahuas, believed ”
Xolos
” helped guide souls to the other side after death, which is kind of epic. They’re now the official dog of Mexico, and Dante is a great poster boy for the breed.

aren’t the pups for everyone.
As a hard-working watchdog breed with a high prey drive, they do form very strong bonds with their humans, but strangers, not so much. They also have a huge bark you wouldn’t expect from these pups, but they’ll only use it while in protection mode.
You can just tell that Dante would do anything for
his mama
and adores being showered with kisses. A real ladies’ man and devoted companion, all Dante needs is a cool summer shirt and gold chain and he’s the spitting image of that rich uncle I mentioned.
