Ongoing Peace Talks Between Ukraine and Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy announced during his evening address on Monday that another round of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia is set to take place on Wednesday. He mentioned that he had discussed the preparations for this meeting with Rustem Umerov, who reported that the talks are scheduled to occur in Turkey with the Russian side. Zelenskyy also indicated that more details about the upcoming discussions would be shared on Tuesday.

According to the document, Kyiv must completely withdraw its forces from four regions of Ukraine—Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson—which Moscow claims as its own “new territories.” Additionally, Russia demands international recognition of the territories it has illegally occupied since 2014, including the Crimean Peninsula.
On the other hand, Ukrainian conditions for peace include a ceasefire to allow for further negotiations. Kyiv also seeks the reciprocal exchange of prisoners of war, the return of children abducted by Russia, and the release of all civilians held in Russian captivity. In a recent statement, US President Donald Trump expressed his concern over the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Earlier this month, he said he was “strongly considering” large-scale “banking sanctions, sanctions and tariffs” on Russia if Moscow does not reach a final peace agreement in its ongoing war. On his Truth Social platform, Trump framed these potential measures as a response to Russia’s continued military actions against Ukraine.
He urged both countries to engage in meaningful dialogue, stating, “To Russia and Ukraine, get to the table right now, before it is too late. Thank you.” This message highlights the growing pressure from the United States for both sides to make progress in resolving the conflict.
Despite the increasing international scrutiny, Russian President Vladimir Putin has previously declined an invitation from Zelenskyy to meet in person to discuss peace. This decision has raised concerns among some observers about the lack of willingness from Moscow to pursue a diplomatic solution.
