UGA Commit Charged with Aggravated Assault in Texas

Atlanta, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – A student who pledged to the University of Georgia (UGA) was taken into custody on assault allegations in Texas, as reported by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Chace Calicut was taken into custody on two charges of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon related to an event that occurred on July 6 in Houston.

The sheriff’s department stated that Calicut and another individual trailed a man and woman in a different vehicle, “who were engaged in a continuous conflict” with them.

The sheriff’s department stated that they attempted to constantly obstruct the car and “fired multiple times at the vehicle.”

No one was injured.

The University of Georgia stated, according to NCAA regulations, it was unable to discuss high school prospects until an NIL deal is in place and an athletic grant-in-aid contract is established.

Calicut was rated as a four-star recruit in the 2026 class according to 247Sports,CBS Sports reported.

He played a crucial role in North Shore High School’s advancement to the semi-finals in the Texas state playoffs, according to CBS Sports. The school is located in Houston.

Calicut pledged to UGA in late June.
