Tuna Products Recalled in Seven U.S. States Over Listeria Concerns
Several tuna salad products have been recalled across seven U.S. states due to potential contamination with listeria, a harmful bacteria that can cause serious illness. The recall was initiated by Reser’s Fine Foods, which has taken action after discovering that some of its tuna salad items may be contaminated.
Listeria is known to cause an infection called listeriosis, which can lead to symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, chills, and muscle aches. In more severe cases, it can result in life-threatening infections, particularly among vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Pregnant women are also at risk, as the infection can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.
The affected products are being voluntarily recalled by several retail chains, including Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas. Additionally, Jewel Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa are also recalling the same tuna salad items.
According to a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the contamination may have occurred through the breadcrumbs used in the tuna salad. This ingredient is now under scrutiny as the source of the potential risk.
