Two homeless people have been arrested in connection with a homicide investigation in Morristown on June 13, authorities said.
On June 18, the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office announced the arrests of Enrique “Flaco” Vega, 33, and Cassandra West, 31, following an investigation into the death of Stanley M. Robinson, 65, of Dover.
Around 9:15 p.m. on June 13, police and paramedics located Robinson, who was already dead, on NJ Transit property near Patriots Path, south of Cory Road.

“It is alleged that Vega and West were present during a physical dispute between Robinson and another individual, R.E., in the early-morning hours of June 13. It is alleged that after Robinson was severely injured, Vega and West did not seek medical assistance for the victim,” the prosecutor’s office said in a release.
The Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Robinson died from “blunt force trauma.” The investigation of his death is ongoing, the prosecutor said.
At some point, Vega and West left the train tracks and stole $2,500 from the business office at the Red Carpet Inn in Hanover when an employee stepped away, said the prosecutor, noting West acted as a lookout.
“It is further alleged that on Saturday, June 14, Vega and West discovered R.E. deceased in an unoccupied residence on Ridgedale Avenue in Hanover,” the prosecutor’s release said. “West is alleged to have tampered with this scene by discarding an empty heroin fold she located near R.E.’s body.”
Authorities discovered the body of R.E. on June 16 and are awaiting results of a postmortem examination, but the prosecutor said, “There was no noted trauma to the deceased.”
Vega and West were arrested later that same day in Newark at the Broad Street train station.
On June 17, Vega and West were charged with endangering an injured victim and defiant trespass for the Morristown incident.
For the alleged robbery in Hanover, Vega was charged with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary and theft while West was charged with conspiracy to commit burglary and conspiracy to commit theft.
For the Ridgedale Avenue incident, Vega and West were charged with criminal trespass and West has been charged with tampering with evidence. Both are being held awaiting detention hearings.
“Many thanks to our law enforcement agencies participating in this investigation – the Morris County Sheriff’s Office, Morristown Bureau of Police, NJ Transit Police, Hanover Police Department, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Special Operations Division – for their vital contributions to this investigation and which remains ongoing,” Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said.
New Jersey Transit Police Chief Christopher Trucillo said, “The New Jersey Transit Police Department takes pride in working hand-in-hand with local, state, and federal partners to ensure the safety and security of its riders and the public at large. We were pleased to take part in this multi-jurisdictional investigation resulting in the suspects’ apprehension.”
