Expansion of Renewable Energy Projects in Romania
Defic Globe, a subsidiary of the Turkish energy conglomerate YEO Technology, has made a significant move in the renewable energy sector by acquiring 15 project companies in Romania. These companies are developing renewable energy facilities with a combined capacity of 219 MW. The acquisition includes battery energy storage systems (BESS) that have a total potential of 320 MWh. The estimated investment for these projects is around EUR 220 million.
The acquisition was carried out in partnership with Emsolt Investments, a renewable energy project developer based in the Netherlands. Emsolt Investments has offices in Turkey, Romania, Italy, and Ukraine. This collaboration marks a major expansion of YEO Technology’s presence in Romania, following its initial entry into the market at the end of 2023.
This investment builds upon an already growing portfolio in Romania. In 2023, Defic Globe completed YEO’s first major local investment, the Caracal Solar Power Plant. This facility has an installed capacity of 18 MWp and produces approximately 26 GWh annually.
In addition to the Caracal Solar Power Plant, Defic Globe has started constructing two new solar plants in Bobicești, Olt County. These plants together have a capacity of 21.3 MWp. They are expected to become operational by the second quarter of 2025 and will generate about 34,400 MWh annually.
Furthermore, Defic Globe has signed a partnership agreement with Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. to jointly develop two additional photovoltaic plants in Romania. These plants will have a combined capacity of 129 MWp. It is important to note that these projects are separate from the 15 companies recently acquired.
Defic Globe has expressed its intention to significantly contribute to Romania’s renewable energy objectives. The company aims to align with national and EU-level targets for clean energy and energy security. This commitment underscores the importance of sustainable development and reducing reliance on non-renewable energy sources.
YEO Technology, which is headquartered in Turkey, is involved in various sectors including engineering, automation, and energy infrastructure. The company has been increasingly focusing on international renewable energy markets. Through its operations in Romania, YEO Technology plans to expand its regional footprint and invest further in solar power generation and storage solutions.
