The affected products are various tuna salad items sold by Reser’s Fine Foods. This recall was initiated after the discovery of listeria in the breadcrumbs used as an ingredient in these products.
Listeria is particularly dangerous because it can cause listeriosis, an infection that may result in symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, chills, and muscle aches. For certain vulnerable populations, including young children, elderly individuals, and those with weakened immune systems, the infection can be severe or even life-threatening. Pregnant women are also at risk, as the infection can lead to miscarriages or stillbirths.
The recall involves several stores across different states. Albertsons, Randalls, and Tom Thumb stores in Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas have voluntarily recalled the affected tuna salad items. Additionally, Jewel Osco stores in Illinois, Indiana, and Iowa are also participating in the recall.
