Tui Unveils Flights to ‘Alternative Lapland’ for Crowds-Free Santa Encounters

TUI Expands Winter Travel Options with New Destinations and Flights

TUI is set to introduce a new winter travel option that offers a unique blend of traditional Lapland experiences and a more tranquil setting. The company has announced the launch of flights from Manchester to Kajaani in Finland for the 2026/2027 winter season. This destination, located in Arctic Lakeland, is gaining popularity due to its appeal as an alternative to the more crowded Rovaniemi.

Kajaani provides a range of activities that are typically associated with Lapland holidays, including husky sledding, reindeer rides, and personal meetings with Santa. However, it offers a more intimate experience, making it an ideal choice for families seeking a quieter holiday. According to TUI, the cost for this experience starts at £1,000 per person, which includes all the essential elements of a Finnish Christmas.

Flights to Kajaani will operate twice a week from Manchester, ensuring convenient access for travelers. Aija Laukkanen, CEO of Vuokatti Tourism, expressed her enthusiasm about the new route, highlighting the region’s ability to provide a peaceful escape from crowds while still offering the chance to meet Santa. She also praised TUI for recognizing the potential of Kajaani and Vuokatti as winter destinations.

The natural beauty of Arctic Lakeland adds to its appeal. During winter, the region’s lakes appear glassy with a sapphire-tinted glow, and the landscape is covered in a blanket of icing powder. These features make it an attractive location for those looking to enjoy the magic of a Finnish winter.

In addition to Kajaani, TUI is expanding its winter offerings to include more options for travelers seeking sunshine. The company is increasing flight capacity to destinations such as the Canary Islands and Egypt. New routes include flights from East Midlands Airport to Antalya in Turkey and Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt. Additionally, Cardiff Airport will see a new route to Hurghada in Egypt.

London Gatwick will also benefit from an additional weekly flight to Montego Bay in Jamaica. For those interested in a tropical getaway, TUI is introducing Thailand wedding packages for the first time during the winter season.

TUI is also launching three new concept hotels for the 2026/2027 season. These include the TUI Blue Yaramar in the Costa del Sol, the TUI Magic Life Redsina in Sharm El Sheikh, and the Holiday Village Skanes Resort in Tunisia. Each of these properties aims to provide unique and memorable experiences for travelers.

Chris Logan, commercial director at TUI UK, emphasized that the Winter 2026 programme focuses on value and accessibility. He noted that Britons are looking for both affordability and exceptional experiences, and TUI has expanded its range of destinations to cater to these needs. Whether it’s a week of winter sun in the Canaries or a dream holiday in the Caribbean, there is something for everyone.

For those seeking inspiration for their next winter getaway, leading travel experts have highlighted some of the best European beaches. From Devon to the Algarve, these locations offer a variety of scenic spots that are sure to inspire travelers to book a break by the sea.
