The strikes, conducted without congressional approval, immediately fueled sharp criticism from lawmakers concerned about escalating conflict in the Middle East.
In a pair of posts on his social media platform, Trump announced that U.S. forces had bombed key nuclear sites, including Fordow, Natanz and Esfahan, using B-2 stealth bombers. “We have completed our very successful attack on the three Nuclear sites in Iran, including Fordow, Natanz, and Esfahan,” Trump wrote.

“All planes are now outside of Iran air space. A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home.”
Moments later, Trump added, “This is an HISTORIC MOMENT FOR THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ISRAEL, AND THE WORLD. IRAN MUST NOW AGREE TO END THIS WAR. THANK YOU!”
The president also announced he would address the nation from the White House at 10 p.m. Eastern time.
The attack marks the first direct U.S. military strike on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, following more than a week of Israeli operations against Iranian targets.
Trump’s decision came amid warnings from national security experts and lawmakers that unilateral military action risked triggering a wider war.
Iranian state media acknowledged that air defenses were activated at Fordow but did not confirm the extent of damage or casualties. Tehran had not released an official statement by early Sunday.
Rep. Ro Khanna, D-Calif., sharply condemned the operation, accusing Trump of violating the Constitution by bypassing Congress. “Trump struck Iran without any authorization of Congress,” Khanna posted.
“We need to immediately return to DC and vote on @RepThomasMassie and my War Powers Resolution to prevent America from being dragged into another endless Middle East war.”
