A Legacy of Excellence in Broadcast Journalism
Tricia Macke, the anchor of FOX19 NOW, has recently been honored with one of the most prestigious awards in television journalism—the Silver Circle Award. This recognition was given during the Ohio Valley Emmy Awards on July 19, celebrating her more than 25 years of dedication to broadcast journalism and her significant contributions to the community over the decades.
Macke’s journey in media began in 1989 when she started as a producer at 700 WLW Radio. She then transitioned to a reporter/producer role at Storer Cable from 1991 to 1992. Her career took another turn in 1990 when she became a news anchor and producer at WCKY Radio, working there until 1993. That same year, she joined WXIX-TV, where she has remained a key figure in the FOX19 NOW team ever since.
Throughout her career, Macke has earned multiple Emmy Awards and received the AP Award for Excellence in Journalism. Her work has not only showcased her talent but also her deep passion for storytelling and public service. Over the years, she has covered a wide range of stories, taking her to different parts of the world, including Israel, and giving her the opportunity to interview some of the most influential leaders, such as former President Donald Trump and former Vice President Mike Pence.
One of her most impactful stories was her coverage of the train derailment that occurred in East Palestine, Ohio, in February 2023. The incident had lasting effects on the residents, and Macke’s reporting played a crucial role in keeping the community informed and engaged throughout the aftermath.
Beyond her professional achievements, Macke is deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of journalists. She regularly gives lectures at Northern Kentucky University and meets with students at the Highlands Journalism Club in the Greater Cincinnati Area. She also engages with students at various local schools, including Ruth Moyer, Moeller, Cincinnati Public Schools, and Silver Grove Schools, emphasizing the importance of local news and its impact on communities.
Her dedication to education and mentorship has not gone unnoticed. More than a dozen individuals wrote letters supporting her nomination for the Silver Circle Award. These include notable figures such as Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, former Congressman Brad Wenstrup, and Betsy Ross of FOX19 NOW, who was recognized with the award in 2022.
Macke’s career exemplifies the power of journalism to inform, educate, and inspire. Her long-standing commitment to excellence and community service has made her a respected figure in the field. As she continues to report on important issues and guide aspiring journalists, her legacy will undoubtedly continue to grow.
