Travelers can now paint at Larnaca airport

A Creative Way to Spend Time at Larnaca Airport

Larnaca airport has introduced a unique and engaging initiative that allows passengers to spend their waiting time before boarding in a more artistic way. On Friday evening, Hermes airports announced that travelers can now recreate famous art masterpieces by painting canvases during their layovers.

The program, titled “1,2,3 Paint by Numbers,” invites passengers to try their hand at creating art using provided materials such as acrylic paints, brushes, and mixing palettes. The paint-by-numbers canvases are contributed by the Nicosia-based Leventis art gallery, making this an accessible and fun activity for all skill levels.

Passengers have the opportunity to recreate well-known works, including Italian painter Guiseppe Nogari’s 1740 piece “Allegory of Painting” or Cypriot artist Telemachos Kanthos’s famous “Women’s Bazaar.” This artwork depicts a lively scene from a market in Cyprus, offering a cultural touch to the experience.

This interactive program was first introduced by Hermes airports last autumn, inspired by an earlier art exhibition hosted by the Leventis Gallery in March 2024. Since its launch, the initiative has been well-received by travelers, who have enjoyed the creative outlet it provides.

As the peak tourist season approaches, the airport has decided to bring back the program, giving passengers another chance to engage with art while they wait for their flights. The sessions are scheduled on various dates throughout July, offering flexibility for different travel plans.

Upcoming Sessions

Here are the dates and times for the upcoming painting sessions:

  • 14/07 | 11:00–12:30
  • 15/07 | 11:00–12:30
  • 16/07 | 14:00–15:30
  • 21/07 | 13:00–14:30
  • 23/07 | 14:00–15:30
  • 24/07 | 14:00–15:30
  • 28/07 | 12:00–13:30
  • 29/07 | 12:00–13:30
  • 31/07 | 14:00–15:30

These sessions provide a great opportunity for both locals and tourists to participate in a creative activity that also highlights the rich cultural heritage of Cyprus. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just looking for something fun to do, the program offers a unique way to pass the time.

By combining art with the daily routine of air travel, Larnaca airport is setting a new standard for passenger engagement. It not only enhances the travel experience but also promotes appreciation for the arts in a public space. This initiative reflects a growing trend among airports worldwide to offer more than just transportation—they’re becoming cultural hubs that enrich the journey for travelers.
