The company now has access to a dedicated outdoor area where learners can practice using heavy machinery such as excavators, cherry pickers, and forklift trucks. This facility is essential for providing real-world experience alongside classroom-based education.
Ed and Kath Gullick, the husband-and-wife team behind Jet Training, highlighted that the location aligns perfectly with their training model. They explained that the combination of indoor and outdoor spaces allows them to deliver comprehensive training in all aspects of highways construction and maintenance. The company is registered with City and Guilds, ensuring high standards of education and certification.
Mr Gullick praised the support from the estate team, noting that they were able to secure the necessary space quickly and efficiently. He mentioned that the flexibility provided by the estate allowed the business to start operations almost immediately.

The outdoor yard is a key feature of the new setup. It enables learners to perform tasks such as excavation, reinstatement, tarmac laying, and traffic management layout simulations. Additionally, it supports winter services operations training, including the use of gritters. This ensures that trainees are well-prepared for all conditions they may encounter in the field.
Accessibility is another major advantage of the new location. Mr Gullick noted that the site is situated just off a dual carriageway, making it easy for clients to reach. The availability of ample free parking also enhances convenience for both students and visitors. Furthermore, the excellent broadband connection is crucial for the company’s operations, particularly for online learning and communication.
James Crawford, chief executive of Johnsey Estates UK Limited, which manages Mamhilad Park Estate, welcomed the addition of Jet Training to the site. He stated that the 150 occupiers of the estate often describe it as a special place to work. Mr Crawford added that it is particularly rewarding to have a local business like Jet Training provide high-quality training on-site.
The partnership between Jet Training and Mamhilad Park Estate is expected to benefit both the company and the wider community. By offering practical, industry-relevant training, Jet Training is helping to develop skilled workers who can contribute to the highways and construction sectors.
This expansion highlights the growing importance of hands-on learning in the industry. As demand for qualified professionals increases, facilities like those provided by Mamhilad Park Estate play a vital role in supporting training initiatives. With its combination of indoor and outdoor spaces, the site is well-suited to meet the evolving needs of the sector.
