Tenant Accused of Arson: 2 Dogs and a Cat Perish in Long Island Home Blaze

Jahan Kia, who is 40 years old, is accused of being involved in several offenses such as arson, vandalism, and cruelty to animals, according to law enforcement officials.

Law enforcement officials on Long Island, New York, have charged a man with deliberately starting a house fire that resulted in the deaths of three pets and injuries to two firefighters.

Jahan Kia, aged 40, was taken into custody following the response of police officers and firefighters to a house fire in Plainview around 7:50 p.m. on Monday, May 26, as reported by authorities.

From the Nassau County Police Department. Authorities stated that Kia was a resident of the house.

The authorities stated that no residents were present in the house; however, they discovered two deceased dogs and one lifeless cat. Furthermore, according to the report, two firefighters were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment of smoke inhalation and burn injuries to their hands.

The police claim that Kia deliberately started the fire in the basement; however, the reason behind it is still unknown.
