Telecel Foundation Boosts Connected Health with Mother’s Day Initiative Expansion

In celebration of Mother’s Day 2025, the Telecel Ghana Foundation organized a community health initiative in Prampram within the Greater Accra Region. They provided essential medical care via their key programs: Healthfest and Rural Ultrasound Scans.

The event took place at Prampram Polyclinic on May 9th, benefiting more than 1,000 people. It offered complimentary ultrasounds to 314 expectant mothers, conducted health checks for 423 community members, and facilitated NHIS registrations for another 300 participants.

During Healthfest, participants underwent screenings for blood pressure, blood glucose levels, hepatitis B, typhoid, and malaria. Additionally, attendees had the opportunity to receive complimentary medical advice, treatment, and direct support from an onsite team comprising physicians, nurses, and pharmacists who provided prompt assistance.

Our Connected Health initiative aims to deliver high-quality medical services directly to underprivileged areas,” stated Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, who leads the Foundation’s efforts in sustainability and external communications. “On this Mother’s Day, our focus extends beyond honoring women; we’re also promoting their overall health through practical support and empathy.

The Rural Ultrasound Scan program tackled a significant shortfall in accessible maternal health care. In rural areas of Ghana, regular ultrasounds are frequently out of reach for pregnant women, which can result in unnoticed complications and avoidable dangers.

Through providing these services free of charge, the foundation promotes early identification of possible complications and equips women with information about their pregnancies. Furthermore, new moms were given welcome kits filled with crucial infant care products, a considerate act designed to ease their path into motherhood.

I learned about this event from my mom and chose to attend,” stated Humphrey, a younger participant. “After getting checked and receiving a diagnosis here, I am finally enrolling in NHIS. This has truly been a blessing.

Another recipient, Rebecca Nyame, went to Tema Community 25 for prenatal care and came back after learning about the event. “I anticipated just a basic examination, but I was given far more than that. With everything from health check-ups to baby essentials, the Telecel Ghana Foundation really made me feel noticed.”

Working alongside the Ghana Health Service, the event included antenatal educational sessions centered around maternal nutrition, prenatal care, and self-care techniques. This reinforced the organization’s comprehensive strategy towards enhancing maternal health.

These Mother’s Day initiatives showcase Telecel Ghana Foundation’s persistent dedication to ensuring fair access to medical care, neighborhood by neighborhood.
