KEOKUK, Iowa (KWQC) – A 22-year-old is charged after an investigation into a report of gunfire at a vehicle with people inside.

According to court documents, after an argument, a man got a handgun from his backpack and shot four times, hitting a business and an occupied car.

Police said
officers responded to the area of 10th and Main Street for a report of a juvenile possibly firing a BB gun at a vehicle after an argument at 12:46 p.m. Saturday.

Officers found four .38 shell casings, a bullet fragment, and a damaged window at Goodyear Auto Service, officials said. They also saw a bullet hole in a vehicle that several juveniles had been inside during the incident.

Officials later interviewed the people who were inside the vehicle.

Through an investigation, police said Holden Jeremiah Hallford, 22, of Keokuk, was identified as a suspect.

On Sunday, officials said they got a search warrant for Hallford’s last known address in the 400 block of Hickory Terrace.

Officials found Hallford hidden in the basement around 7 a.m. on Monday, and he was arrested without incident.

A firearm matching the caliber of the shell casings at the scene was found in the home, officials said.

Hallford is charged with:

  • Intimidation with a dangerous weapon, a Class C felony
  • Reckless use of a firearm, an aggravated misdemeanor
  • Third-degree criminal mischief, an aggravated misdemeanor
  • Fourth-degree criminal mischief, a serious misdemeanor

Hallford was taken to the Lee County Correctional Center and officials said he is being held pending an initial appearance.
