Swindon School Celebrates Diversity and Inclusion

Celebrating Diversity and Inclusion at Lawn Manor Academy

Lawn Manor Academy in Swindon has been making waves for its commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment. The school recently took part in the official relaunch event of the Wiltshire Ethnic Police Association (WEPA), where it was acknowledged for its outstanding efforts in supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Assistant headteacher Marek Koza delivered a powerful speech at the event, highlighting how the school embraces its multicultural community. With pupils speaking at least 38 different languages, the academy is a true reflection of global diversity. Mr Koza shared his pride in being invited to the WEPA event, emphasizing how the school has become more united by embracing cultural differences.

The school actively celebrates its diversity through various initiatives such as Cultural Days and Refugee Week. These events provide opportunities for students to showcase their heritage and learn about one another’s traditions. Mr Koza explained that the school recognizes the importance of acknowledging unique backgrounds, as they play a significant role in shaping individuals and helping them achieve their future goals.

Since July 2023, Lawn Manor Academy has been designated as a School of Sanctuary, a UK-wide initiative that promotes kindness and understanding towards people seeking safety. This recognition aligns with the school’s broader mission to cultivate a culture of compassion, respect, and support for all students.

At the WEPA event, 20 dancers from the academy performed a routine that earned them first place for the South West in the Great Big Dance Off. Additionally, other students showcased their talents through singing performances, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Claudia McKenzie and Elroy Rodrigues from WEPA expressed their admiration for the event, calling it one of the most vibrant and inspiring occasions in the organization’s history. They praised the students and staff of Lawn Manor Academy for their contributions and highlighted the emotional impact of Mr Koza’s speech.

The performances by the children were described as nothing short of outstanding. The pair also emphasized the supportive atmosphere between teachers and students, which they believe serves as a model for building stronger communities. They noted that the interaction between staff and students demonstrated a sense of safety, encouragement, and mutual support.

McKenzie and Rodrigues added that the school’s approach to education fosters an environment where students feel valued and empowered. They pointed out that the way the students supported each other during the performance reminded adults of the importance of solidarity and teamwork.

These are exactly the kind of schools and educators that contribute to the strength and vibrancy of communities. By prioritizing inclusion and celebrating diversity, Lawn Manor Academy sets a remarkable example for others to follow. Its commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment ensures that every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
