Surprise Reunion Alert: Your Favorite ‘Girlfriends’ Are Back Together!

While a reboot of the cult-favorite sitcom

Girlfriends

isn’t yet in the works, actress and producer
Tracee Ellis Ross’s
brand
Pattern Beauty
is giving loyal fans the next best thing. To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the beloved television show, Pattern is getting the gang back together for its first-ever brand commercial.

“What was unique about

Girlfriends

that was different than

Sex and the City

was

Sex and the City

was all about their dating relationships with a girl group to discuss it with,” show creator Mara Brock Akil
previously told

Bazaar

. “I wanted to shift it to the chosen family of sisterhood and use Joan and Toni as my Carrie and Mr. Big. It was always about that—whether or not that relationship was ever going to make it, and then letting all the other ones wrap around it. [Black women] did not have any seat at the table on

Sex and the City.

And although I still really enjoyed the show, I didn’t see that as a rejection; I saw it as an opportunity.” Within the Black community and beyond,

Girlfriends

is widely beloved for its relatable representation of enduring female friendships.

The last time the cast reunited on set was in 2019 during a season six taping of the hit show

Black-ish

. In the new beauty campaign, directed by
child
and produced by ATTN: and De La Revolucion / Prettybird, Ellis Ross stars as the Chief Curltender or hair mixologist, guiding guests to the best solutions for their hair needs.

Girlfriends

actresses Golden Brooks, Jill Marie Jones, and Persia White each join in to showcase a distinct look while seeking their own Pattern product combinations.

“Hair cocktailing is a common practice in our community: We layer curl gels, creams, oils, and more to create a personalized formula that works best for our own hair,” Ellis Ross says in a statement. “Partnering with child, a wildly talented director who is also a member of the Pattern community, was a delight. Child brought creativity, passion, and a singular point of view to our commercial. In this spot, we wanted to celebrate the styling rituals with our cast of various textures as well as reunite my

to show the joy that lives in our shared hair moments.”

Pattern by Tracee Ellis Ross’s offerings run the gamut from cleansers, conditioners, treatments, and stylers, to
hot tools
and everyday maintenance essentials, like brushes, combs, and hair accessories. As the brand approaches its sixth year in the beauty space, the launch of their first-ever commercial marks the next phase of the company’s juggernaut growth.
