The News19 WLTX school supply fundraiser, in partnership with the United Way, is here to change that. This initiative aims to collect monetary donations that will help provide students with the resources they need to learn, grow, and thrive. Who Benefits?
This initiative supports local United Way chapters, which work closely with schools to identify students who need the most assistance. United Way’s focus on early childhood education is backed by research that shows the critical importance of the first few years in shaping a child’s future. Last year, United Way made significant strides, with 73% of local children becoming kindergarten-ready, 82% graduating high school on time—well above the national average of 50%—and 87% of program participants advancing to employment or further education. Every dollar raised supports the United Way Worldwide and their local chapters.
What Can You Donate?
Monetary donations will be accepted for this campaign, and they can be made directly through the United Way fundraising site. Supplies and resources vary based on local needs, so monetary donations ensure that funds can be allocated where they are most needed, directly benefiting students in your community.
Tracking and Distribution
The funds will be tracked by United Way’s global office team and redistributed based on donor zip code. The school supplies purchased will be determined by each local United Way market, depending on the individual needs of those communities.
How Are Donations Distributed?
The funds raised in each market will be distributed by United Way Worldwide directly to the local United Way affiliate teams. These local teams will utilize the funds to support existing youth opportunity programs in those specific communities, focused around back to school preparation.
