Additional forces and resources will be deployed in the Sumy region to build fortifications amid intensified Russian attacks, according to Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration.
According to him, on June 13, a meeting of the Regional Defense Council was held to analyze the current security situation and outline priority tasks to strengthen the defense capabilities of the Sumy region.
“We decided to deploy additional forces and resources to build fortification structures. We identified ways to protect critical facilities with anti-drone nets. We also resolved to prioritize meeting the needs of our units at the front lines,” Hryhorov reported.
He added that this week, 8 million hryvnias were allocated for the purchase of drones for Ukrainian defenders on the Sumy direction. The meeting also discussed ways to strengthen the region’s air defense.
“We identified additional needs for our air defense units and directed funds toward acquiring the necessary equipment,” Hryhorov said.
Situation in the Sumy region
On June 8, Russian forces intensified shelling of the Sumy region. Oleh Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that seven people were wounded in the Nedryhailiv community and three more in the Esman community as a result of the strikes.
At the same time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces are holding the line in Sumy and have pushed the Russian army back slightly.
According to DeepState analysts, Russian forces have expanded control along the border of the Sumy region. On June 8, analysts suggested that the village of Loknya may have been occupied by Russian troops.
