Summer Reading Program at La Crosse Public Library Keeps Kids Engaged

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) – The La Crosse Public Library recently began their 2025 Summer Library Program.

Librarian Annie Baumann says activities include story times at places like the public pool and parks, as well as educational events and parties at the library.

She adds the programs offer a bridge between the end of one school year into another.

“We all know about the summer slide and the need for kids to engage in reading to keep their knowledge fresh,” says Baumann

Andrew Frigo has two children who have participated in the summer programs for multiple years. He says the programs provide education as well as a safe space for his children to be in during the summer.

“We can come to the library and the kids are safe here. We can go and get our books while they can explore. They can feel safe to go and find us if they need to, or hang out here. It’s a safe place and it’s a welcoming place. Everybody truly is welcome and should feel safe here,” says Frigo.

Baumann says the program also provides an opportunity for community members, from adults to children, to connect with each other.

“It’s just a nice space for people to come together, get to know their neighbors, and get to know each other. I feel like that’s one of my greatest joys is watching those relationships form organically in our events,” says Baumann

The Summer Library Program will continue until July 31st.
