Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi, two legendary figures from Barcelona, have joined forces to create a new soccer team called Deportivo LSM, which will be located in Uruguay.
On Tuesday, Suarez revealed through an Instagram post that the team, previously called Deportivo LS, has now changed its name to Deportivo LSM. They will be participating in Uruguay’s fourth division, Division D, governed by the Uruguayan Football Federation (AUF).
Boasting over 3,000 members, robust infrastructure, and a team of more than 80 dedicated professionals who work every day to foster the growth of children and adolescents, our organization stands strong,” stated Suarez, Uruguay’s leading goalscorer throughout his career. “Our aim is to provide young individuals with the chances and resources that were unavailable during our youth.
Next to Suarez in the video sat Lionel Messi, his long-time friend and ex-teammate from both Barcelona and Inter Miami. Messi conveyed his enthusiasm for being part of the initiative and committed himself to supporting its growth.
I am deeply honored and thrilled that you included me,” Messi stated. “This initiative has been your vision for many years, and having the chance to be involved with it together is truly remarkable.
The announcement coincided with the launch of Deportivo LSM’s official Instagram account, which attracted over 40,000 followers within two hours.
In 2018, the groundwork for the club was established when the Suarez family inaugurated a comprehensive 8-hectare sporting facility in Ciudad de la Costa, which is a neighborhood within Montevideo, Uruguay. This establishment comprises an arena covered with synthetic turf capable of holding up to 1,400 viewers, several practice fields, along with various initiatives tailored for their expanding number of members.
