The Final Season of Stranger Things Unveiled
The much-anticipated first trailer for the fifth and final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things has finally been released, but fans have expressed a mix of excitement and concern. After an over three-year wait, viewers were finally given their first proper look at the epic conclusion of the series, which has become one of Netflix’s most beloved sci-fi fantasy shows.
The two-and-a-half-minute trailer opens with Steve Harrington (Joe Keery) tinkering with a device, ominously stating, “burn commencing in five, four, three, two, and…” This sets the tone for what is expected to be a high-stakes and intense finale. The camera then shifts to key characters such as Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Winona Ryder as Joyce, Maya Hawke as Robin, and Natalie Dyer as Nancy, all gathered in a room with serious expressions on their faces.
We also get a glimpse of Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas, and Sadie Sink as Max, who remains in a coma after the events of the previous season. The trailer highlights the team of 80s heroes facing down their biggest threat yet, with horrifying creatures from the Upside Down unleashed and life-and-death stakes at play.
The trailer is gory, tense, and promises plenty of drama, especially with Vecna returning more mangled than ever. However, the long wait has left some fans struggling to remember the details of the previous seasons. Many expressed confusion about the storylines and character names, with comments like “Don’t even remember what happened, it’s been so long” and “I don’t even remember the characters’ names at this point.”
Despite this, many fans have been won over by the intensity of the trailer. Social media reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, with users expressing fear and excitement. One user wrote, “THIS SCARES ME,” while another said, “The wait might be worth it coz this is bloody brilliant.” Others shared similar sentiments, with comments like “I have full body chills” and “HOLY MOTHER- OH MY GODDDDDDD.”
The official synopsis from Netflix describes the upcoming season as bigger and more complicated than anything the characters have faced before. Military personnel have taken over Hawkins, Indiana, and the Demogorgons are as fearsome as ever. The gang must rely on each other as they take on whatever Vecna has planned for them in the final chapter of the series.
Picking up in the fall of 1987, Stranger Things 5 finds the town scarred by the opening of the rifts, and the heroes united by a single goal: to find and kill Vecna. With the town under military quarantine and the hunt for Eleven intensifying, the teen heroes are racing against time as they prepare to face something more powerful and deadly than ever before.
Discussing the final season, the Duffer Brothers, Matt and Ross, mentioned that they created a 25-page mythology document at the start of the series, which will come into play now. They hinted that some of the remaining questions will be answered in the final season, leading to big reveals.
For those concerned about the trailer giving away too much, Ross reassured fans on social media that the scenes were largely pulled from volume one, with nothing from episode seven. He teased that the trailer “just barely scratches the surface.”
Stranger Things season five volume one will be available on Netflix on November 26, followed by volume two on Christmas day, with the final episode airing on New Year’s Eve. Fans are eagerly awaiting the release, hoping for a fitting conclusion to one of the most popular series on the platform.
