Lee acknowledged that he would be willing to make a significant sacrifice not just to help his Knicks stage an incredible conference series comeback, but also to go on and win the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy for a third time.

The 68-year-old admitted that he is so eager for an NBA championship to come back to New York City that he would be willing to trade in an Oscar.

“I would trade in an Academy Award, Oscar, just to see the Knicks clinch a championship,” Lee stated on NBA on TNT before Game 5, sporting a blue and orange pinstripe suit.

When the Knicks were down 3-1 in the series, Charles Barkley couldn’t resist seizing the opportunity for a humorous jab, playfully retorting: ‘Well, you’re going to keep them.’

Lee has won two Oscars throughout his distinguished Hollywood journey, which includes a special honorary Academy Award in 2015 and the award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019 for the film “BlacKkKlansman.”

The director has seen the Knicks secure championship titles during their heyday – which happened twice, indeed. New York clinched victories in 1970 and 1973, yet they have not secured another title in more than five decades.

Lee’s expectations were reignited on Thursday when the Knicks declined to yield their lead in a commanding 111-94 victory against the Pacers.

Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns of the Knicks stepped up with performances of 32 and 24 points respectively at Madison Square Garden, leading their team to this vital win.
