South Texas Imaginarium Launches Summer Camp for Kids, Registration Now Open

Summer Camp at The Imaginarium of South Texas Offers Creative Learning Opportunities

The Imaginarium of South Texas is preparing to host a summer camp for children aged 5 to 11, offering an engaging blend of science and art activities in a structured and creative environment. This program aims to provide young learners with hands-on experiences that encourage exploration and discovery.

The camp will take place from July 21 to 25, with daily sessions running from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each day includes breakfast and lunch, ensuring that participants are well-fed and ready to learn. The cost for the program is $150 for members of the museum and $170 for nonmembers. Due to limited space, registration is currently open and encouraged to be completed as soon as possible.

Campers will dive into projects that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and math — commonly referred to as STEAM education. These activities are designed to spark curiosity and creativity while also allowing time for play and interaction with the museum’s exhibits. The goal is to create a dynamic learning experience that balances fun with educational value.

A New Chapter for The Imaginarium

The Imaginarium recently reopened at Laredo College in spring 2024 after relocating from Mall del Norte, where it had operated for over two decades. This move marked a return to its original location, which was first established in 1991 as the Laredo Children’s Museum. The new venue is located at Laredo College’s main campus, specifically in Building P-149, near West End Washington Street.

The relocation was made possible through the support of the local community and the alignment of Laredo College with the museum’s mission. Executive Director Nora E. Murillo expressed her gratitude during the reopening ceremony, highlighting the importance of community backing and the college’s commitment to the museum’s goals.

“If Laredo College hadn’t taken us in with open arms, this might not have been possible,” Murillo said. “Everything here is science-based. Kids can spend all day playing with the exhibits and sit in the sand digging up dinosaurs.”

Exploring Interactive Learning Zones

The Imaginarium features several permanent learning zones that offer immersive experiences for visitors. These include a kid-sized grocery store, where children can practice real-life skills, and a live reptile exhibit that introduces them to different species of animals. Another highlight is a replica dinosaur dig site, which allows kids to engage in simulated archaeological activities.

These interactive spaces are designed to make learning fun and accessible, encouraging children to explore scientific concepts through play. The museum continues to evolve, ensuring that each visit provides new opportunities for discovery and growth.

How to Register for the Summer Camp

Families interested in enrolling their children in the summer camp can reach out through several methods.
