SL and China Ink Deals for Science and Tech Collaboration (International Edition)

Sri Lanka, June 23 — Sri Lanka and China recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Chengdu, China, to strengthen cooperation in the fields of science, technology, and innovation. On behalf of Sri Lanka, Science and Technology Minister Prof. Chrishantha Abeysena signed the agreement, while the Science and Technology Minister of China, Yin Hejun, signed on behalf of the Chinese government.

The Ministries of Science and Technology of both nations have been designated as the responsible parties for implementing the terms of the agreement.

The MoU aims to promote and support collaboration between the two countries in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, focus particularly on sustainable development, technological innovation, and solutions to global challenges such as climate change, food security, and biodiversity conservation and foster cooperation based on equality, mutual benefit, and mutual consent between the two sides in science, technology, and innovation.

The cooperation programme will be implemented through specific focus areas including food, agriculture and biotechnology, climate change and biodiversity, health and medical sciences, advanced materials and nanotechnology, Artificial Intelligence, and digital transformation.
