As the most successful tennis player from Scotland,
Andy Murray
is accustomed to providing a delight for enthusiasts.
Now the previous two-time Wimbledon champion and Olympic gold medalist has set his sights on securing yet another illustrious title for his list of achievements.
The couple, aged 38 and 37 respectively, are striving for a Michelin star, 12 years after purchasing Cromlix Hotel in his birthplace of Dunblane, Perthshire, reportedly for around £2 million.
This follows the luxurious 5-star Victorian hotel, constructed in 1874, which was honored with awards for both Best Boutique Hotel and Best Historic Hotel at the prestigious Innis & Gunn Prestige Hotel Awards held earlier this month.
The property features only 15 uniquely designed rooms and suites, with prices starting at £335 per night, along with a separate Gatehouse Lodge.
Based on the information provided on the hotel’s website, Mrs. Murray is described as the ‘driving creative influence’ behind the project and plays an active part in defining the Cromlix experience.
Her contribution assisted in securing the hotel a prestigious Michelin Key award last year, which recognizes the top-rated establishments featured in the Michelin Guide.
During an interview with The Sunday Times, Mrs. Murray expressed her amazement at receiving the honor immediately after its launch in October last year.
She stated: “This mirrors what we’re accomplishing at Cromlix.”
‘It’s thrilling to realize that we’ve come onto Michelin’s radar; they now recognize our presence, and we can expect annual visits from the Michelin Guide inspectors.’
With intentions to reshape it into a food lover’s haven after appointing James Mearing as executive head chef in February, they are now striving for recognition with a Michelin star.
Mrs. Murray stated, “The cuisine prepared by Chef James is remarkable. Previously, I wasn’t fond of salmon, but he has completely won me over with his cooking method.”
When we considered him as our potential new chef, he prepared two dishes for us, and truly, his culinary creations are outstanding.
‘For Andy, food was once purely practical during his gaming sessions, but now it has become more luxurious, light, and delightful.’
The most recent updates for the hotel feature an elegant new glass-enclosed dining area capable of seating up to 80 guests, along with a cutting-edge kitchen. Additionally, there’s a refined fine-dining establishment complete with 16 table settings.
Sir Andy informed the magazine: “A top-notch hotel restaurant holds great significance—it’s something I grasped during my travels as part of the tennis circuit.”
In my view, the cuisine at Crompix has consistently been excellent. However, I’m aware that Kim and her staff are implementing several modifications in the coming year that will enhance it further.
The former tennis star has shown he isn’t much of a chef after joining forces with Dame Mary Berry for her holiday special in December 2023.
She was clearly unenthusiastic upon discovering his specialty was egg bagels and assigned him very simple chores as she prepared a smoked haddock kedgeree.
