Auditions for Young Performers’ Theatre Production of “Shrek, Jr.” Are Now Open
The Davis Musical Theatre Company (DMTC) is excited to announce open auditions for its Young Performers’ Theatre production of “Shrek, Jr.” This beloved musical, based on the popular fractured fairy tale, offers a fun and engaging opportunity for young actors aged 7 to 17 (with 18-year-olds eligible if they are currently enrolled in high school).
Auditions will take place on Monday, July 21, and Tuesday, July 22, starting at 4:30 p.m. All events will be held at the Jean Henderson Performing Arts Center, located at 607 Pena Dr., #10 in Davis. Those who are selected for callbacks will be invited back on Wednesday, July 23, at 4 p.m., at the same venue.

About the Show
“Shrek, Jr.” follows the story of an ogre named Shrek who lives in a faraway swamp. One day, his peaceful life is disrupted by a group of fairy tale misfits who have been banished by Lord Farquaad, a small but ambitious ruler. When Shrek sets out with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he is given a challenging task: rescue the feisty princess Fiona. If he succeeds, his swamp will be restored. Along the way, Shrek must navigate obstacles, win Fiona’s heart, and face unexpected twists that make the story truly unforgettable.
Roles and Casting

Preparation for Auditions
Participants are encouraged to bring a prepared song that is not from “Shrek, Jr.” along with sheet music and piano accompaniment. A piano accompanist will be available during the audition process. In addition to the prepared song, there will also be cold readings to help assess each performer’s abilities.

Rehearsals and Performance Dates
Rehearsals for the production will begin on Monday, July 28. The show is scheduled to open on Saturday, September 13, with additional performances on September 20 and 27, as well as October 3-5. This is a fantastic opportunity for young performers to gain experience in a professional theater setting and share their talents with the community.
