After a two-year break, the American Music Awards made a comeback at a new venue in Las Vegas. Many stars drew fashion cues from the city’s flamboyant vibe, but nobody embraced it as boldly—or playfully—as Rebecca Black did when she arrived at the red carpet looking like she had just rushed into an impromptu marriage ceremony.
The black ivory silk taffeta gown worn by her was both flounced and cinched with a corset, complementing her ensemble with a bridal veil alongside a monogrammed sailor hat—the last being an iconic element from Los Angeles-based designer Erik Charlotte’s nautical-inspired autumn 2024 line.
In response to Variety’s inquiry about whether she expressed a desire for a wedding dress, Black playfully remarked, “I didn’t say that, yet somehow we found ourselves in this situation, leading me to exclaim that I definitely want to get married.” Later, speaking with Billboard, she mentioned her aspiration to appear as an “angel,” further stating, “My aim was to glide gracefully down the red carpet.”
Black gained prominence in 2011 as a teenager with her hit pop single “Friday.” As an adult, she has shifted towards hyperpop and has become known for her energetic DJ performances at events like Boiler Rooms, where she has opened for Katy Perry and embarked on solo tour dates. In 2020, Black openly discussed how her rapid rise to stardom affected her mental well-being when speaking to Good Morning America, mentioning that she felt burdened during that time.

With an unapologetically queer persona, her comeback to music has embraced a playful, over-the-top aesthetic reminiscent of a wild party girl, earning her a dedicated new fan base. During the AMAs, when speaking with Billboard, she shared that she takes each day as it comes. “I definitely enjoy myself quite a bit with my work,” she noted, referring to her flamboyant outfit.
During an unexpectedly muted red carpet where numerous celebrities either skipped the photo opportunities or didn’t attend at all, Black’s outfit caught everyone’s attention. The evening honored legends such as Janet Jackson and Gloria Estefan, yet several nominees and award recipients opted to send pre-recorded videos instead of being present in person.
Among those who made it, some, such as Black, embraced the Las Vegas style, although generally speaking, the evening’s attire appeared somewhat mismatched. Hosting the event, Jennifer Lopez changed outfits several times with glamorous and voluminous ensembles suitable for the venue. Meanwhile, Benson Boone took the stage wearing an eye-catching purple floral suit from Dolce & Gabbana, and Shaboozey sported dazzling plaid chaps courtesy of Etro. Arriving at the scene, Ciara wore a flashy Bronx and Banco bodysuit adorned with chains—a reference she made during a red carpet interview with Billboard about bringing sparkle back to Vegas—while Heidi Montag shimmered in a blue flared jumpsuit designed by The Blonds.
Although Black may not be heading to Las Vegas’s wedding chapels anytime soon, bridal-inspired styles have historically concluded many runway shows. As the official concluding act for the AMAs’ after-party DJ, her rebellious outfit was fittingly appropriate.
