Sharon Stone Shares Heartfelt Tribute to Her Late Mother

Sharon Stone recently shared a touching message on social media, revealing the heartbreaking news that her mother, Dorothy Stone, had passed away. In her post, Sharon wrote, “My hilarious, complex mother died.” She added, “A product of the last depression, let’s NOT do this again. Let’s protect and care.” Alongside the message, she shared a joyful image of herself sitting beside her mother on a balcony, captured mid-laugh, which highlighted the strong bond they shared.

Fans and followers quickly responded with condolences, leaving messages such as: “She gave birth to an inspiring woman! Rest in peace,” “My heart goes out to you! Stay strong!” and “So sorry Sharon. Sending love to you and your family.”

A Complex Relationship That Grew Stronger Over Time

Sharon grew up in Pennsylvania as one of four children, raised by her mother Dorothy and father Joseph William Stone II. While their relationship was initially strained, especially after Sharon left home for college at the age of 15, it gradually improved over the years. By the time of her mother’s passing, they were very close.

Dorothy had been in and out of hospitals in recent years, and Sharon often shared updates about her mother’s health on social media. These posts highlighted Dorothy’s resilience in the face of adversity and pain. Over the past three years, she had suffered from a stroke and a fall at home, with Sharon recently sharing a video of her mother in the hospital, showing bruises but still managing to say “Happy Valentine’s Day” in a message posted on Instagram.

In the caption of that video, Sharon expressed her admiration for her mother’s strength. “THIS is grit, this is legacy, this is character; this is how you get up after you fall at 92. CHAMPION MOMMY,” she wrote. The actress and mother of three clearly saw her mother as a source of inspiration and strength.

Reflections on Their Relationship

During a conversation with Canadian radio show Q, Sharon spoke about her memoir, The Beauty of Living Twice, and reflected on some of her conversations with her mother about their past. She recalled a moment when she told her mother, “You know, mom, you never let me lean on you.” Her mother replied, “That’s right. I taught you to stand on your own two God damn feet.”

Sharon shared that her friends were surprised by her mother’s response, but she later came to understand that her mother’s approach was rooted in love and protection. “As I grew to understand my mother, and I grew to understand the complexities of her life, I grew to understand that was love,” she said. “She gave me the most loving, the most protective, the most concerned parent, concerned mother to another woman, thing that she could give me.”

While she didn’t fully grasp her mother’s intentions when she was younger, Sharon now sees the value in the lessons her mother imparted. “When I was 15, at college, it was a great gift. When I was 19 modeling in New York and in Milan, it was a fabulous gift,” she reflected.

Her mother’s influence shaped her into the strong, independent woman she is today, and her passing marks the end of an era for Sharon and her family.
