Severe Thunderstorms Slam CNY, Leaving Damage in Their Wake

Thursday brought sun, clouds and highs in the 70s for most of Central New York, but some locations were impacted by severe weather especially southwest and south of Syracuse.

Many of the warnings issue by the National Weather Service Thursday were severe thunderstorm warnings during the early and mid-afternoon hours due to potential straight-line wind gusts.

That being said there was also one tornado warning issued for western and southern Tompkins County from roughly between 1:45 PM and 2:15 PM.

Here’s a look at some wind and tree damage in different parts of the South Central New York:

It wasn’t just damaging wind gusts knocking down trees and powerlines there were several reports of large hailstones too.

If and when any additional reports of severe weather damage come in to our weather office we will update this story accordingly.

Even though Thursday was a marginal to slight risk for severe weather type of day it still occurred somewhere.

Severe thunderstorms are not to be taken lightly when a warning is issued.

Remember the damage listed in this story the next time we share a similar severe weather potential in the future.
