VINITA, Okla. —
UPDATE:
After a fiery crash on the Will Rogers Turnpike Thursday morning, authorities assumed the driver of the semi that plunged off the interstate, died in the ball of flames. Miraculously, he survived.
The driver of the car that crashed into the semi, was identified as Nurbin Remigio Hernandez-Guzman. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers say Hernandez-Guzman ran away from the scene of the crash and after searching for about three hours, they found him in a wooded area nearby. Authorities booked him into the Craig County Jail.

The 21-year-old is being held on charges of leaving the scene of an injury crash, reckless driving, obstruction, driving without a license, and failure to maintain insurance. According to the Craig County Sheriff’s Office, he is also on hold for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Hernandez-Guzman was not injured in the crash and the driver of the semi came out of it with minor injuries.
The crash closed I-44 eastbound lanes along with Hwy 60 where the semi burst into flames.
A statement on the OHP’s Facebook says, “We’re grateful this crash did not result in any fatalities. We also want to thank the first responders and assisting agencies who helped manage this large and complex scene, which impacted both the Will Rogers Turnpike and State Highway 60.”
This incident remains under investigation. The case will be submitted to the Craig County District Attorney’s Office for review.

According to OHP, a semi exited the turnpike’s overpass in the eastbound lane at the Vinita Exit, MM 289. They say part of the crash is on the turnpike, and the other part fell onto US-60 Vinita following the vehicle’s explosion.

OTA said the turnpike’s eastbound exit ramp reopened around noon, but US-60 underneath remained closed. More information is available on
