Self-Doubt Hinders Women’s Growth and Development—Ahenu

Sunyani, (Bono), May 24, GNA – Mr Raphael Godlove Ahenu, International human rights activist and development advocate, has urged women to build their self-confidence and esteem, as they aspire for leadership positions in politics and secular life.

He said many women possessed good leadership qualities, however self-doubt emanating from societal stereotypes continued to undermine their potential and abilities to pursue higher in their life careers.

He said with self-confidence and empowerment, many women could participate actively in the decision-making process and amplified their voices in tackling gender-sensitive issues, inimical to the holistic growth and development of women.

Mr Ahenu gave the advice when speaking at an engagement meeting with the Women’s Ministry of the Kings Assembly of the Sunyani East Industrial District of the Church of Pentecost in Sunyani.

It was on the theme “Building personal confidence as a 21st century Woman” and sought to inspire the women’s ministry of the church to contribute to the decision-making process of the church and society.

Mr Ahenu said the meeting was also in line with a campaign he is implementing seeking to advocate gender equality and a strengthened women’s role in leadership.

Mr Ahenu is also the Chief Executive Officer of the Sunyani-based Global Media Foundation (GloMF), a human rights and anti-corruption media advocacy non-governmental organisaton.

He noted that, “low self-confidence and esteem continues to be a barrier that prevents many women from stepping into leadership positions both in the church in society,” and urged women to believe in themselves, recognise and build their capabilities.

That would position them well to contribute to making critical decisions in shaping their future, he stated, inspiring women to aspire higher in education, mentorship, and personal development.

Mr Ahenu called on religious bodies, families, and the entire society to support women empowerment, and thereby create an enabling environment for women to thrive in leadership.

He praised the church leadership for empowering women through the ministry and asking churches to do more to promote gender inclusion and equal opportunities for women in governance and community development.
