Seager’s Walk-Off Homer Powers Rangers’ Victory Over Athletics

Corey Seager hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning, which opened up a tightly contested game and secured a victory for Texas pitcher Jacob deGrom as the Rangers defeated the Athletics 6-2 on Tuesday during the second game of a three-game series in Arlington, Texas.

The Rangers have won the first two games of this series, securing their third consecutive series victory. Texas has captured five of its last six games and stands at 52-50 on the season, which is the first time since May 19 that they have been two games above the .500 threshold.

deGrom (10-2) allowed three hits and a walk during six innings of pitching, with nine strikeouts. He has secured six straight victories in his last nine starts, ending a two-game stretch without a win. deGrom hasn’t suffered a loss since giving up two runs on five hits in 5 1/3 innings against Toronto at home on May 26.

Athletics pitcher J.T. Ginn held deGrom to one run and a walk over five innings, recording two strikeouts before being replaced by Sean Newcomb for the sixth inning. Newcomb (2-5) took the defeat after allowing a home run to Marcus Semien in his single inning of work.

Texas had more hits than the Athletics, 10 to 7, with eight of the nine starting players managing to get a hit. This marked the third consecutive loss for the Athletics.

The Athletics got off to a quick start as Lawrence Butler hit a home run to begin the game. That lead remained until the fourth inning, when Texas equalized the score with a solo home run from Adolis Garcia.

The Rangers took the lead when Semien hit a fly ball that struck the left field foul pole off Newcomb with one out in the sixth inning. Texas extended their advantage in the seventh inning with four runs, starting with an RBI single from Josh Smith that scored Josh Jung. Seager then hit a powerful three-run home run, his 14th of the season, over the right field wall.

The Athletics scored a run in the seventh inning when Shea Langeliers’ hit against Texas reliever Robert Garcia brought in Jacob Wilson, who had reached due to an error.

But that’s as close as the visitors would come, as Garcia recorded the final out of the eighth inning and Shawn Armstrong struck out all three batters in the ninth for the Rangers.
