The event will begin at 10 a.m. with hands-on experiments, including learning about meteorites, where guests can engage in discussions about the origins of space rocks.
“Guests come in where we would ask them like what do you think is a meteorite?” said Abby Wolfe, director of communications for Science Museum Oklahoma. “So, for example if I drop this into your hand, pretty light, it’s pretty light!”
The day’s events will also feature telescopes and space history activities. Later in the evening, ‘Sally’s Night’ will honor Sally Ride, America’s first female astronaut in space.
“We’re celebrating Sally Ride. Sally Ride was America’s first female astronaut in space,” said Wolfe.
Community partners from across Oklahoma will join to share stories about space history and travel, aiming to inspire future scientists.
“Our community partners are going to be lending their hand to that storytelling in hopes to bring kind of the story together of Sally Ride and other astronauts that made a difference,” Wolfe said.
The evening event, starting at 7 p.m., is free to the public and will include rocket launches and planetarium shows focusing on women in astronomy.
